Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The Town of Ocean City MD renews $50,000 print, radio and local tv contract to promote the bus transportation system in Ocean City MD. (as written in a local newspaper Feb 3, 2006). A review of the Town web site revealed that the actual minutes from that council meeting of Feb 2, 2006 are not yet posted on their web site.
The council approved the marketing campaign to continue to promote the alternative transportation afforded by the city’s bus system. A good idea for sure, but sometimes I wonder if they really understand that there is a much more effective and less expensive option: THE INTERNET. An internet focus would more effectively promote the Park n Ride in West Ocean City MD and the advantages of usage for daytime visitors.
There are many major local internet portals, including a couple of our AT THE BEACH internet portals of , www.AtBeach.com and www.OCmaryland.com that receive significant internet visitor traffic from those same future visitors to Ocean City MD. Others would include for sure the Ocean City Maryland Chamber of Commerce web site at www.OceanCity.org …
Probably 80 percent of visitors to the city for vacations or week end getaways use the internet to plan their trips in these days of the net! .. NONE of them have access to the local literature racks in hotels, or can listen to local radio or watch local tv to learn about the advantages of the cities transportation options, and yet the town continues to market the transportation seemingly only within its town boundaries? I’m not advocating to discontinue usage of print, radio and local cable advertising, but to significanly use the Internet Marketing Advantages (both cost saving and reaching a targeted audience in advance of arrival) has ALL the elements to succeed. I wonder when the city will recognize this and beckon some advice from us in the INTERNET business as well as the traditional print media companies?
