Taxi Regulation Changes Pending!

Ocean City MD Taxi Cab Ocean City MD – I’m quite elated to read in a local newspaper (The Dispatch – a Free Newspaper found in most any public store and many business lobbies in Ocean City MD) that during the most recent City Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb 28th, 2006, the Ocean City MD Town Council appears to be heading toward enacting legislation that will eliminate the existing “unregulated” fares which allowed the cab industry to charge those unwary consumers who enter their “cab for hire” whatever they could get away with!. Current regulations only require the cab to post the “rates” on the exterior of the cab! This really requires anyone to then analyze the “rate” printed on the side of the cab vehicle and pull out their calculator and set on the curb for some minutes to try to calculate what this “cab for hire” will cost. A FLAT RATE maximum charge will in my opinion protect the consumer in Ocean City MD! Other more stringent regulations appear to be pending as well, to which are a welcome addition to the town regulations regarding Taxi Cabs for Hire. I will continue to follow this topic and post up as this new legislation regarding the regulation of taxi cabs for hire in Ocean City MD moves forward.

  • Thanks for the info. I only use the cab when going to West Ocean City bars. I always wondered about difference in price.

  • Yes, it’s happened to quite a few cab patrons! In some cases the consumer was really at a disadvantage and charged much more than the ride should have cost them. So ask in advance before hopping into a cab as to the estimated cost to your destination.
