Spring fever is upon us! The dormant wintertime perennials and flowers are starting to reach for sunshine and begin their growth for our enjoyment! If it’s a trip to the beach that will sooth you and take away your cabin fever, then do it! A few ideas and thoughts for those who wish to frequent the off the main road things in Ocean City Md .. and enjoy the nature and environment, at less cost and more enjoyment during your SPRING FLING!
On the Island (Ocean City) , a few hours spent at North Side Park in Ocean City Maryland is a treat! (127th St and Bayside – with plenty of free parking) Bring a basket lunch and enjoy a calm setting around the saltwater lake. The younger ones can roller blade or ride bicycles around the circular path surrounding the salt water pond and the park. Take a walk out onto the extended pier over the bay 
and enjoy the nature that abounds there. Bring your camera and take pictures while you are there! Take the grandchildren to the playground area and allow them to play on the swings and other playground enjoyment available there. Bring a kite and fly it in the open spaces. In the summer you can bring your own crabbing gear and catch a few crabs from this pier! .. There is also a public waterfront area at 4th St in Ocean City MD .. public parking is available (by meter in the summer) but it’s a great place to spend an hour or more watching the boats coming and also a nice place to take the kids for some outdoor activities full of nature, vibrancy and a nice exposure to the bayside!
For a more extended activity, a short drive (about 40 minutes from Ocean City Proper) to Assateague Island is a great 1/2 or full day excursion. A trip with or without children is enjoyable. Stop at the visitors center on the right side of the highway just before you cross over the Verrazano Bridge onto the Island and gather some literature, view the exhibits and find out about the history and the environmental issues relating to Assateague Island. Once on the Island, you may see the ponies, white tail deer, and walk the beach or the bayside walking trails during your visit. Bring your camera .. maybe a basket lunch with beverage and spend the entire day exploring. Bring a warm jacket / coat .. just in case it’s a bit brisk in the springtime.. so consider Assateague as a day trip during your visit. A map link is provided if you click here (google map) . …..
A walk on the Ocean City Maryland Boardwalk is always inviting. When you are walking the boardwalk, stop in at the Kiteloft store at 6th street for an experience for everyone especially the younger children. Buy a small kite and take the kids for a kite flying experience on the beach! Ok.. Usually it’s dad that wants to fly the kite, and the kids begging for a turn? While your at the Inlet area of Ocean City MD .. get out of the car at the inlet parking lot, and walk along the jetty area. You will experience the smell of the salt air and sounds of the waves splashing over the inlet jetty rocks and of the navigational buoys just offshore. Watch the ever present flight of the seabirds and boats coming and going through the inlet to and from the sea! Memories are created therein to take home with you!
Looking for some interesting shopping, visit Berlin Maryland, just a 20 minute drive away. Stroll the quaint and historic shopping district, with Antiques, art galleries, gifts shops including the Victorian Charm Store and the Main Street Gift Gallery, retailers of personals and unique Gifts, and learn about Berlin Maryland history, and simply relax for a while. Stop in the historic Atlantic Hotel for a nice lunch or dinner before leaving town.
Care for some sporting activity? – Golf at Deer Run Golf Course .. bring the younger ones for this activity. you will find plenty of help and economical prices. With practice driving and putting areas, special prices for off season, and convenient to Ocean City Maryland and Southern Delaware Resort Regions this course is suggested for the golfer or golfing family. Maybe it’s a good place to introduce your young teenager to the world of golf?
