One of the MOST SPECTACULAR shows of the year in Ocean City MD. The 2010 Ocean City MD Air Show featured the US Air Force THUNDERBIRDS. They were accompanied by a nice list of other high performance flyer sensations.
These included the GEICO SKYTYPERS, JASON NEWBURG, ROB HOLLAND AND JACK KNUTSON, US Navy Seals Parachute Team, US Navy F/A-18 Hornet, and a few awesome flyby demos.
I had the fortune to the use of the Media Center, and on the practice day June 3rd, was perched atop the Quality Inn at 16th St and the Boardwalk. Certainly the place to be on this weekend was an Ocean Front Hotel room on the boardwalk in the 14th – 18th St proximity. Optionally, one could use a park and ride in from the West Ocean City MD Park n Ride or park at 146th St behind the movie theatre area on a side street and take the bus.
The 2011 Air Show is still in the planning stages. For updates, schedules, list of performers, tickets, etc.. check out their web site at: www.OCAirShow.com .
Many viewers simply carried beach chairs to the event and perched on the beach to watch the show. There are ticketed prime spaces available also directly in the path of the planes in the center of all the booth and events area at 16th St.. Visibility was great from anywhere along the boardwalk area in the 14th to 19th st areas I assume.
A WORD OF CAUTION: Parking is at a premium – I advise taking the bus to the event and be prepared for long lines to catch a return bus at the end of each day’s program. A local taxi is a fine alternative and a taxi fee from this area to North at 146th St would run about $20 or a bit less for a family or group of 4 or so.
